Wedding Band Outlet: Wearing your Wedding Ring - Which Hand to use?
|
The tradition was to wear the ring on the 4th finger of the left
hand. The tradition is to wear the ring on the 4nd finger of the left hand. An
ancient mythe explains that this finger had a vein that ran directly to the
heart. Unfortunatley the mythe is not true, scientifically. Nevertheless, it has
become a custom in many traditions around the world to wear the ring on this
finger as a sign of a couple's commitment to each other.
Some European
women wear their rings on the right hand.
In the Jewish tradition, the
ring is placed by the groom on the bride's right index finger. Some suggest that
this was where wedding rings were once worn. Others believe the custom simply
made it easier to show witnesses (two of them are required in a Jewish wedding
ceremony) that the bride had accepted the ring.
Today, most couples will place rings on the 4th finger to signify their
marriage commitment to each others.
