Wedding Band Outlet: Differences between 14K and 18K Gold

Pure gold, 24K, is too soft for ring manufacturing. Therefore, manufacturers use alloys to strengthen the ring and match it to the desired color. Manufacturers that follow the industry standard mix 58.3% Pure Gold for 14K (which is 14 devide by 24 ~ 0.58) and 75% Pure Gold for 18K (which is 18 devide by 24 = 0.75).

A wedding band made of 18K gold is usually about 20-25% more expensive than the 14K version. Since the material of 18K is closer to pure gold than the 14K, the color is different. The majority of wedding rings purchased in the U.S. are 14K.

The only difference between 14K Yellow Gold and 14K White Gold is the metals that are being used other than gold. Both 14K White Gold and 14K Yellow Gold Have the same amount of gold in it (58.3%). The same with 18K Yellow Gold VS. 18K White Gold.
